Tattoos and Mainstream Culture :: Argumentative Persuasive Topics
Tattoos and Mainstream Culture Many people have been getting tattoos lately. People of all ages have been getting them and from all different backgrounds. On a nice day in just about any public place one can spot a tattoo about every five minutes, from the business man who had a portrait of his daughter put on him to a young girl with a butterfly on her ankle and even people with extensive tattoo coverage. What is even more interesting is the rise in the number of people who are heavily tattooed and that they come from all different backgrounds. Not too long ago tattooing did not experience the popularity in mainstream culture that it does now. The question that must be asked in order to understand this fascination that popular culture has had with tattoos is why people get tattoos. There still is a lot of intolerance towards people who have tattoos especially towards people who have a lot of them but these days a tattoo here and there is not looked down as it once was. There was a time when only "low lives," were thought of as having tattoos and people who had them were dirty criminals and should not be associated with. Due to the mainstream of the world not accepting the practicing of tattoos many tattooists and their clients went into an underground state. It was not always easy for people to even find a tattoo artist even if they were brave enough to be labeled a "low life" by the majority of culture. A lot of places even banned tattooing due to the fact that they thought tattooing was morally wrong and a health risk. Tattooing was still illegal in New York City until 1993. The mystery that surrounds the art of tattooing has always created ignorant ideas from people who are misinformed. Looking back at how people perceived tattoos then and how many "normal" people have them today shows a lot about how the world has changed, specifically in mainstream society. These days one can thrown a rock and hit a tattoo shop, but why the change of heart? Why are tattoos so popular now? Holly Tuesday, a writer for "Skin & Ink" tattoo magazine and heavily tattooed person said "We all, myself included, like to think that we stand out from the crowd.

Fundamentals of Microeconomics Essay
Macroeconomics defined as ââ¬Å"the study of the economy as a whole, which includes inflation, unemployment, business cycles, and growthâ⬠(Colander, G-5). There are many fundamentals that affect the economy in both a good and bad way. These fundamentals affect the economy, and they also show the growth of the economy. The fundamentals are gross domestic product (GDP), real gross domestic product, nominal gross domestic product, unemployment rate, inflation rate, and interest rate. Defining the fundamentals Gross Domestic Product is ââ¬Å"the total market value of all final goods and services produced in an economy in a one-year periodâ⬠(Colander, G-3). GDP calculation is very important because it calculates the growth, decline, or stand still have the economy. When the GDP is calculate, it is base on previous numbers not future numbers. For example, the GDP is +2%, which means a growth of 2% for the previous year. Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is ââ¬Å"the market value of final goods and services produced in an economy, stated in the prices of the giver yearâ⬠(Colander, G-7). Real GDP is an inflation measure of the production of goods and services in the economy. It reflects price changes throughout the year. The real GDP is base more on realistic numbers instead of a guess. The calculation is more accurate concerning the gross domestic product for the previous year. Nominal gross domestic product is calculate at existing prices. Nominal GDP does not reflect inflation and is known as ââ¬Å"current dollar GDP.â⬠Nominal GDP can either be higher or lower than the GDP. When nominal GDP is calculate without reflecting inflation, which can show a higher growth in the economy when it is lower or at a standstill. Unemployment rate is ââ¬Å"the percentage of people in the economy who are willing and able to work but who are not workingâ⬠(Colander, G-9). The unemployment rate is calculate every month, and it shows the people who are looking for work. This rate does not include individual like the elderly, people working only a few hours a week or people who do not send resumes into different business. The unemployment rate shows that based on the number of people in the United States, a certain percentage is actively looking for work but has not found work. Inflation Rate is the percentage rate of change in price over a certain period usually a year. The inflation rate is calculate using last year price for a particular item to determine how much it will cost. Inflation rate determines the price of many things that include the price of the dollar. When individual calculates the inflation rate, it can help others determine if it is better to buy certain products today or later. Interest Rate is ââ¬Å"the price paid for the use of financial assetâ⬠(Colander, G-4). Interest rate is a certain percentage that an individual has to pay on borrowing money or purchasing something. The interest rate is base on the credit score and the item purchase. The rate can go from being a very low number to as high as 10 percent. Purchasing of Groceries The purchase of groceries affects government, households, and business daily. The government determines the tax placed when household purchase groceries. Every household in the United States purchase groceries to survive. The businesses are affected by grocery purchase through the purchase. The business is affected by the purchases made because it shows what is being purchase more and what is being purchase less. The flow of resources take place in continues circular motion. The groceries are receive by the business from the local food processing plants. The employees at the local business placed the items on the shelves and groceries are ready for sell. The household members purchase the groceries from the business and pay the taxes government placed on the items. This continues to take place daily and will always continue. Massive layoff of employees The flow of resources takes place, and it affects businesses in both good and bad ways. Most business can employee the previous laid-off employees to allow taxes to be paid. When businesses are not able to employ more employees, unemployed do not demand good and services. When employees are layoff, there is no income coming into the household. The household is affected because there is no income, which in return means less good and service that can be purchase. When massive layoffs of employees take place in the economy, it affects government because they are paying unemployment benefits, Medicaid, and giving food stamps and more welfare to those eligible. Decrease in taxes When the government decides to decrease tax, it affects everyone differently. Government is affected in a good way, but it occurs in the long-run supply and demand curve. The government is losing more because taxes are lower but more money is being receive. In the long-run supply and demand, the government receives more money because the household is purchasing more good and services. The household is excite because more money is coming into the household because taxes are lower. The lower the tax, the more income, which mean more good and services are being purchase. Businesses are excite because more goods and services are being purchase. The flow of resources occurs and is affected in the long-run supply and demand curve. References Colander, D.C. (2010). The Tell Tale Heart And The Black Cat - 786 Words
ââ¬Å"The Tell-Tale Heartâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The Black Catâ⬠are two short stories written by Edgar Allan Poe. Both stories share the elements of death and outrageousness; both have frightening night time scenes as well. In both of the short stories the protagonists of both stories seem to have very little or nothing in common. Their marital status, living conditions, and responsibilities are very different. If the reader looks more closely, the two men appear alike in many ways: both share their criminal history in flashback form. More importantly, as both characters recount their tales, they vehemently defend their sanity. These striking similarities become more vivid, and it soon becomes apparent that the two men are way more alike than believed before. In ââ¬Å"The Tell-Tale Heart,â⬠the nameless protagonist narrates his story from a prison cell after murdering the old man he lived with. The narrator tells us that he had no rational reason for wanting to kill the old man. He claims the old man had never did anything wrong to him and that he loved him and did not want his money. However, the old man had a ââ¬Å"vulture eyeâ⬠that horrified the narrator. The narrator was frightened of the ââ¬Å"vulture eyeâ⬠because in its outward ugliness, he ââ¬Å"sawâ⬠his own reflection; the narrator is inwardly ugly and repulsive, for he planned and executed murder; his soul is more repulsive than the old man s eye. The reader can then interpret the ââ¬Å"vulture eyeâ⬠not as an organ of vision but as the homonym of ââ¬Å"I.â⬠In thatShow MoreRelatedThe Tell Tale Heart And The Black Cat1612 Words à |à 7 Pagesdifferences in his works. Recyclable Art- Guerra De La Paz - 1302 Words
Estephany Velis WARP AM Research Paper 1 Recyclable Art- Guerra de la Paz Another manââ¬â¢s trash is another manââ¬â¢s treasure. At least, thatââ¬â¢s the case for artists Alain Guerra and Neraldo de la Paz, commonly known as Guerra de la Paz. The uncommon materials they use in their installations are from the waste bins of second-hand goods shipping companies (Saatchi Gallery). Their most common item being second hand clothing, that they pick and choose to create vibrant works of art (Textile Forum Magazine 2011). Their work critiques everyday consumerism and society, while also depicting the life story of the past wearers (Textile Forum Magazine 2011). They would use fabrics to create the same effect they had created with the magazines, ââ¬Å"Fabrics hold color much more strongly than paperâ⬠Guerra commented (Cochran et al. 2011). Guerra de la Paz were inspired by the va st amount of clothing that was just discarded for newer and better things without even considering the effects it could have on the environment (Cochran et al. 2011). Eventually, this led to the beginning of their famous works with clothing. The process of creating the installations requires a good eye to pick and choose similar colors to create their very famous works. ââ¬Å"They find like colored garments and use optical mixing to form three-dimensional objectsâ⬠a similar approach they took when they created their collages (Cochran et al. 2011). Guerra de la Paz knot and twist the fabrics they pick and choose to create different figures that come to life and cease to be simple fabrics (Batet 2009). They have a few styles ranging from abstract spectrums of color to figurative art (Cochran et al. 2011). For example, Tribute (2002- ongoing) is ââ¬Å"a 12-foot mound of clothing layered along the color spectrum to create an abstractâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ form (Cochran et al. 2011). Ho wever, unlike Tribute whose main focus is abstract, Indradhanush (2008) takes the shape of a rainbow, creating more of a figure. Similar figurative artworks are: Sunt Omnes Unum (2008) and Oasis (2006).

Riordan Manufacturing Accounting And Finance Review Essay
Riordan Manufacturing Accounting and Finance Review The Finance and Accounting departments within the three operating entities of Riordan Manufacturing are vastly different. Each is managed independently, not only of each other but of the corporation sector as well. The Georgia, Michigan and California branches operate different business systems for their ledgers, accounts, orders, procurement, sales history, invoicing, payroll and all financial reporting. The process to get this information is unique from branch to branch and time consuming for corporate when it comes to consolidation. None of the systems used are integrated, which causes many hardships for the departments and the company in terms of untimely reporting andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This branch does own the source code; however, having a support resource is very important. Neither system is able to interface with the other. The Georgia branch uses a product which not only offers vendor support but they also have a license for the source code. The product uses a UNIX based operating system and runs on Windowââ¬â¢s workstations. Georgiaââ¬â¢s current system includes all the requirements for all branches, with few exceptions. If upgraded to the product supplied by Georgiaââ¬â¢s vendor, San Joseââ¬â¢s branch will no longer have the EDI, Bar Code Reading or EDSS (Executive Decision Support System) within the system. Accommodations for the loss of these features will need to be made which is considered an acceptable loss when compared to the benefits of using the global accounting software. When Riordanââ¬â¢s Financial and Accounting systems have been upgraded in both San Jose and Michigan, the business processes that are currently in place will change. The manual transfer of data will no longer be necessary and there will be less need to send hard copies of data to the corporate office. The audit process can be handled through the corporate office, and all the informat ion will be available in a single application. Strategic Management Analysis
Question: Describe about the Strategic Management. Answer: In this particular research work, focus would be shed on three types of innovation and special focus would be shed on Subway group. Baregheh et al. (2012) have stated that innovation is a diverse activity and there is no monopoly on creative thinking. In this part, focus would be shed on three innovation activities that Subway Group is required to incorporate for the further advancement of business growth (Ceylan, 2013). Figure 1: Three Types of innovative activity (Source: Ceylan, 2013) Incremental Innovation: This is not likely to supply a spectacular change in the operation of the commerce presentation. However, continued modernism in the part is needed to fuel unremitting enhancement in both the manufactured goods and the process-related features of the commerce. It can be stated that this is needed to put off a corporation from deteriorating behind its contestants and making sure its predictions for the long-standing endurance in the existing market place. Therefore, it is required to mention that this innovation would help the company from failing behind the competitors. Already there exist several competitors in the market of Subway like KFC, McDonalds and Berger King. Therefore, this innovation is essential for the expansion of the company in different parts by staying ahead of the existing competitors (Hassan et al., 2013). Substantial innovation: This type of innovation gives superior chance to add worth, as this brings about the creating of the commerce chances that are expected to guide the business and supply a spirited benefit to the organization budding them. In this case, it can be stated that the level of innovation demands considerable investment in the entire procedure along with an successful policy for running the modernization from its development and the expansion period through to victorious commercialization. Incorporation of several effective strategies would help the organization to add value to their existing products and services and this would help Subway to create several business opportunities. Therefore, it is regardless to say that in order to stay competitive in the stiff business environment, Subway is required to add value to their products as well as services (Hill, Jones Schilling, 2014). Radical Innovation: This novelty can revolve commerce on its head by generating new bases of presentation along with new trade models as well as new competitors in the market place. Hitt, Ireland and Hoskisson (2012) have stated that this stage of innovation is frequently noticeable across the industries and crops up as the topic of commerce articles and the business school case studies. Radical innovation most of the times comes from the outside of an industry and this is frequently technology based. For example, it can be stated that to grab the attention of several customers, the company is required to transform their operation online. Taking down the delivery of the customers, maintaining the database of the customers online as well as making the delivery system online are some of the radical innovation that Subway must incorporate for staying competitive in the market place (Joshi, 2013). However, it can be stated that innovation is an necessary constituent of the business movement. For the expansion of the business, the company is required to rely on three generic innovation strategies and these have been mentioned here in details. The company is required to be pioneer and focus on bring new and business foremost technologies to the marketplace, so that the customers of the competitors get attracted to this corporation. The second strategy is the fast follower that adapt at improving the obtainable technologies through incremental modernism in both the manufactured goods and procedure technologies (Lasserre, 2012). This stage most of the times focused on the cost downs and in order to stay competitive in the market place, Subway is required to revise their existing pricing policy in case of some of their products. The third strategy in this case is opportunistic and this makes some venture in the substantial innovation but also sources innovation from the third parti es and spends in adapting these for its recognized marketplace chances. Figure 2: Three generic innovation strategies (Source: Hill, Jones Schilling, 2014) After going through these strategies, it can be stated that Subway is required to be innovative, as these exist several competitors in the market place and this has been already mentioned. Ceylan (2013) has stated that often the level of innovation is linked to the maturity of the industry and this fast food chain is one of the fastest growing industries globally. The target of the organization presently is required to be pioneering and only this strategy can help Subway to stay competitive in the market. Hill, Jones and Schilling (2014) have stated that pioneering players in this fast food industry generally have a strategy of growth from the new products and market development.
